Editing Blog

I walked into class thinking I was going to edit my commercial today but the computers had other plans. I don't know what happened but the computers wouldn't open up Pinnacle Studios. I didn't want to sit around and wait for class time to pass by. I decided to film the scenes I needed. I also re-filmed some scenes I thought were not good. I filled out the camera agreement paper and grabbed a camera. I also grabbed an SD card and my props from the class's closet. Luckily, the girl in my film already finished her commercial so I was able to film. I had to wait for her to dump her footage on the computers before getting started. After she was done, I let her change into the homecoming dress.

Originally, I had planned for a dance with the girl and boy but the boy was not in class today. I had to change that whole scene so that it could make sense for my commercial. I let the girl do the scene by herself. Instead of dancing, I filmed her modeling and repping Macy's clothing. I filmed in many different angles and movements for this scene. I want the audience to really see the dress and the expressions on the girl's face. After filming, I packed up my equipment and grabbed my props. I went back to class and began the dumping process. The computers were starting up really slow so it took me a while to dump. Finally, I imported my clips into my folder on the desktop.

Because we couldn't edit, we were told to transfer our media to a flash drive or to our google drive. My flash drive couldn't be recognized by the computer. I ended up having to transfer them to my google drive. I never done anything like this so I had to ask for help from another student. She came over and explained how to do the transfer. I was told to open up google drive and press 'drop new files'. The desktop folder popped up and I looked for my clips. After finding my clips I selected all and pressed continue. I waited about 5 minutes for it to finish. I successfully finished filming and now I'm waiting on instructions to begin editing.

Filming Blog #2

Past weekend, my group and I did not film. We were all too busy to fit filming in our schedule. One person had to work and I was out of town. Our scenes require everyone to be there. So, if one person can’t make it then we can’t film. We planned to film this weekend in the afternoon. It’s better for all of us since everyone is free until 6pm. We will check out a camera tomorrow since there will be no school for the rest of the week. We are instructed to return the camera next Monday. Unfortunately, we are not able to check out computers.

Because we are not able to check out computers, we will have to dump on Monday. Since everyone in the group lives far from the mall, Chad will meet up at Kaliyah’s house and I'll drive. Chad will then get in her car and they’ll drive to the mall and begin filming. We plan on spending 2 hours at the mall, and 2 hours at the beach. We will each bring a prop that’s needed. We are not wearing makeup in the video so makeup will not be needed. I am the only group member that doesn’t have beach attire so I will be purchasing during our time at the mall. The shopping bag will be part of our prop. After the two hours are up, we will drive to the beach. Additional people are invited to the beach to be apart of our film.

I don't have my own car so I'll have to wait for my mom to get home. She gets off at 1pm which is good because we meet up at 2pm. The mall is about 30 mins from my house. I will be driving to the mall by myself. This is our only chance and day to film. If one member doesn't show up, we plan on just continuing filming and that missing person will just have to film on their own. We cannot miss this filming day as there is no other. By 5pm, we should be wrapping things up as the sun begins to go down. Sunset begins at 5:28pm this weekend. We don't plan on filming when it gets dark.

Storyboard Blog

  1. 1. Our customs will be casual everyday clothing. However, the lightening during this time period will be bright being that it’s the peak of the day. During all our scenes we won't wear makeup. Although we will use props such as our phone to play the music.  we will use a wide shot being that we want the mall scenery to be seen. Angles during this shot is a high angle to emphasize us making memories together. We probably a use a pan shot to create us in like an establishing shot of our scene.
  1. 2. There's no custom change and the same lightening will be used. During this shot we will create a high shot because were dancing to the music. The dancing will be our acting. The setting of this will still be in the parking lot of galleria mall.
  1. 3. We are still in the casual clothing. We will use a point of view shot and it will be hand held being that I am encouraging them to come to the mall. We won't have any props during this scene. The setting will be us walking into galleria mall. This will also have a tracking shot because theyre walking up.
  1. 4. In this scene, our costume will be casual clothing. Lighting will be bright as this scene will be shot during the day. We will be walking towards the mall entrance so our backs will be turned. We will not be wearing makeup as in this scene our faces are not shown. There are no props in this scene. The setting will be us walking from the parking lot towards the mall entrance door. For this scene we will be using tracking shot and wide shot.
  1. 5. For this scene, there is no costume change. Lighting will be dim since we are inside the mall. Our acting, is us dancing as we’re looking through the store. There is no makeup used in this scene. Props are clothing in the store. Setting will be inside a store. We will be using medium shots, two people shot, and pan.
  1. 6. This scene has no costume change. Lighting will be dim. Our acting will be socializing amongst each other. We will not be using makeup in this scene. Our props will be shopping bags. Setting will be the escalators of the mall. We will use low angle.
  1. 7. In this scene, the costume will be casual, every day, clothing. We will be sitting in the car heading to the beach. The lighting in the scene will be natural daylight.  The scene will be taken on the tripod where the camera is stationary. The actors will be singing along and enjoying the featured song in the music video. No make-up will be used in this scene.
  1. 8. In this scene, the costume will still be casual everyday clothing. We will still be in the car driving to the beach. The movement of this scene will be a tracking shot of the City of Fort Lauderdale outside of the car window. There will be no acting in this scene. Because the actors will still be in the car there will be no props as well. The actors will also wear no make-up. The lighting in this scene will be natural daylight.
  1. 9. For this scene, the friends arrive at the beach. An establishing shot will be taken to show the setting. The actors are not shown in this scene therefore, there will be no make-up used on the actors or any costume changes. The lighting in the scene will be natural daylight.
  1. 10. This scene is going to have us going into the bathroom or fitting rooms with our regular clothes and then leave the fitting room with beach clothes on. This shows that we are changing to go chill at the beach. This goes correspondingly with the vibes we want for our video. We won’t be acting in this shot and will use a wide shot.
  1. 11. In this scene we will be seen having fun at the beach. We won’t have any sound in this film except the song. We will make some of the lyrics concerning the beach match up to us at the beach. The props we will have are a beach towel, speaker, beach umbrella, cups, coolers, and food. We will have on the beach attire and just be seen having fun; laughter, smiling, and dancing included. This portrays the chill vibe of the song that we want to capture and we will use a wide shot.
  1. 12. In this shot we will be seen parting ways. After a long day of fun and creating memories with each other by just chilling with each other. We will be putting away the same props from last time. We will have the music fading out as we are leaving. This hints at the song ending and the day will be over. The sun should be setting around that time as well. We will use a wide shot for this.

Planning Blog

My group mates and I chose three different locations to film at. Our music video begins at galleria which is a shopping mall close by. We'll start in the parking lot blasting Skywalker by Miguel, but not very loud because we don’t want to disturb any mall securities. We will then transition to inside the mail to buying beach wear which is our attire for the beach. After purchasing our beach wear, we will transition to the beach to have a little party among each other. However, we will ask permission from the store we go to film. If it rains or galleria ask us to leave, we will try a different mall and if it rains, we’ll just choose another day to do the beach scene.
For our health and safety, we will make sure to wear seat belts while driving. We will do this because there are many consequences of driving without a seat belt such as getting in an accident and flying through the windshield and getting a ticket. We will also look both ways before crossing any streets to avoid getting hit by a car and we will also make sure the driver will not text and drive. We will also not leave our belongings in the car because robbers would be able to see that and they might try to break into the car in order to get the items. These safety precautions will make sure to keep us safe during our filming process.
We will have a good number of props. Our props will vary during our mall scenes we will have vary shopping bags filled with beach clothing to prepare us for our transition to the beach. At the beach we will have numerous of props to create the scene of having a party. Some of these props will include cups, a beach umbrella, beach towel, cooler and a speaker. Each group member would have to provide at least one prop.
The costumes that we will wear are casual clothes. We are going to wear causal clothes in order to convey the chill vibes theme that we have throughout our video. We want to make sure that we don’t wear anything inappropriate as well, which is why we will make sure to keep the clothes we wear appropriate for school. We are going to switch clothes into our beach clothes for the beach. We are going to make sure that our beach clothes are not showing too much skin. For the girls, if they have a two-piece, they are going to wear something over that to cover it up. For me I will wear a t-shirt and some swimming trunks in order to convey the beach theme and be appropriate. These costumes are the most efficient way to keep our theme and to keep it school appropriate.
We have a set schedule for the rest of our filming process. Today and tomorrow we have to finish our planning and storyboarding process. Then we have to create a filming blog on whether we decide to film this weekend or not.  Which we decided to film on 11/30 during the thanksgiving break. This gives us 3 class periods to edit because our music video is due 12/09. This set schedule will make sure we have enough time to get everything done.

Music Video Research Blog

The commercial has expanded my knowledge. My production and editing skills have improved significantly. I worked on that project alone so I did everything that was needed. I know the ins and outs of Pinnacle Studio now. Now that my knowledge have strengthen, I can definitely improve on this music video. I thought since I struggled on the commercial because I didn't have any help, I'd join a group for this project. My group and I have successfully talked and agreed upon our choices for the music video.
The song that we are using is Sky Walker by Miguel. We are using this song because this is a very chill song that you can vibe to and that is what we were looking for. We can all relate to this song and we love the energy that it gives off. We like the chillness and we believe that we can really connect with this song. Not only can we connect with this song, but we also have a good story to go with the song. We instantly had ideas when we heard this song and that made us want to do this song even more. We all agree that this song is the best choice for us.

FinEditing Blog

I started editing a couple days ago. I didn't get much done but cutting my clips. I deleted parts from the clips I thought were unnecessary. Today, I planned to add transitions. It was a short class period; 40 minutes. PinnacleStudios was going slow on my computer. 15 mins later, "low battery" pops up. At this moment, I knew I had to speed up my pace. I didn’t want to rush this editing process but time is limited. I only have one more class period to complete this commercial.

The first thing I did was rewatch my footages. I wanted to make sure everything is where I wanted it to be. I then went to the tab where it says “Transitions”. There were so many to choose from. I don’t know if it was an issue with PinnacleStudios or I was doing something wrong but I spent half the class period trying to add transitions. I tried dragging and selecting transitions. Nothing was working. After many attempts, I decided to finally ask for help from my classmates. Most students I asked didn’t know how to do it either. At the last minute, I found someone who had transitions on their commercial.

She showed me how she added her transitions. Right when I grabbed my computer, it shut down. It died in my hands. I couldn’t edit anymore. I had to plug the computer back into the laptop cart. There were only 5 minutes left in class so I knew I wouldn’t have time to let it charge and finish editing. In the time being, she showed me where to find all the transitions and how to apply them. I took notes so that I wouldn’t forget. So, next class, I plan to add my transitions and wrap up the editing process. I won't have much to do so I know for sure I'll finish on time.

Filming Blog

I can honestly say filming was easier than I thought. Since I am doing this commercial by myself, I had to do everything; cast actors, film, and dump. First, I grabbed a check-out form to get my camera. After I filled out the form, I was given a camera. I went downstairs to the location of my first scene and set up. I made my sign, which said "Will you go to hoco with me?" I didn't get to purchase flowers so I pulled out some flowers from the bushes at school. Since everyone was filming their commercials, I had to wait for a guy and two girls to finish theirs to use them for mine. After waiting for 15 mins, I finally got the number of people I needed to film. Then, I set up everyone's position and told them there lines.

Because of the movements and angles I wanted to use, I used a handheld camera. I first filmed the guy holding the flower. It took us at least 5 times to film this part because everyone couldn't stop laughing. I then did a two-people shot to show the guy and a girl holding the proposal sign. I tried to do the easy shots first. I thought that'd be the fastest way for me so I recorded an over-the-shoulder shot of the couple hugging. I realized it wasn't smart to rush because the actors were confused. So, I had to redo the scenes in order. Then, I re-filmed every part of the scene from different angles because the sun was very bright and didn't know which angle looked best. After filming, I packed up
all my equipment and went back to class

Directing and filming at the same time was kind of difficult. I didn’t have any help because I was working on this project alone. However, I got it done in time. Once I got to class, I dropped off my camera and got an SD card reader. I put the SD in the card reader so that I can plug it in the computer through a USB. To begin the process of dumping, I got onto a computer and created a new folder on the desktop. I searched for my clips and then copied them to the folder. Next, I took all my props and put them in the closet of the classroom so that I would not lose them. After dumping, I watched the videos to make sure nothing was off.

Editing Lesson Blog

In class, I learned how to edit clips for when I film. Before I film, I will have to get access to a camera. To use the school's camera, I must first grab a form and fill out every information that is asked for. I will then write down the item number of the camera so that the teacher and I will know which camera I will be using. To use the tripod, I have to extend it and place it down. Then, attach the camera on top by screwing it on. If I have to move the camera to a different location, I have to close the tripod. It is not safe to walk with the tripod open because I can trip and possibly break the camera. The camera that is provided by the school is handheld so it will be easy to use. The viewfinder can be flipped and its touchscreen.
After filming, I will need to open the Pinnacle Studios application and create a new folder on the computer; this is where I will edit my clips. To ensure my film doesn't get lost or deleted, I will have to make sure to log in to the same computer with the same login. Once logged in, I have to place the SD reader on the computer. To look for my footage, I will have to search in the DCIM folder. If for some reason, I can't find my raw footage, I must go to the private folder and press stream. There I will find everything that is on the SD card. Next, I will be dumping. I will drop my footage from the camera to the computer. To do this I will highlight all of my clips and drag them to the folder that was created. Once that is completed, I will import footage from the computer to Pinnacle Studios. I will have to go inside the application and press the “+” sign. There is where I will find all my videos; I will then select the ones I need. After clicking import, it will say AV1: Title, AV2: Clips, and AV3: Sound.
To edit, I can cut out unnecessary parts from clips, remove sound from certain clips, and add transitions. To delete unnecessary parts from clips, I must highlight the section I don’t want and cut it out by hitting the razor button. To delete sound, highlight clip and press detach. Then, I press delete to remove sound. To add transitions, right-click on clip and press transitions. There are many transitions to choose from such as dissolve and fade in. Lastly, I must add a title. To do so I would have to press on the “T” symbol. I would then enter the proper title and it will appear in the video. Also, I can place the title anywhere in the clip. To save the finished project, I will hit File, then press Save File. Once that is done, I will drag it to the folder. When completely done with it, hit export and make sure it says MPEG4 and full-size resolution.

Research Blog: Commercial Convection

My commercial will be about an upcoming event here at FLHS; homecoming dance. The homecoming dance is usually the event after spirit week and either take place at the school or an off-campus location. Our homecoming is often at a venue and we, the students, took a vote on the theme of the dance which is Miami Vibes.

I chose to film homecoming as a way to show school spirit and encourage students to attend the event.
In most homecoming commercials, the following are used:
  • Dialogue between two people about the event
  • Actors shopping

Introductory

Hey, I'm Kerin. Welcome to my blog. I am a student at Fort Lauderdale High. I am a junior. I like to be academically challenged. Math has to be my favorite subject because it's so easy and I love solving problems in my head. I am artistic and creative.
I love to do makeup on my free time. I see myself as a artist and I try to perfect my art. I practice everyday at home after school. I know each time I try, I get better. I plan on starting my own business and becoming a licensed makeup artist. Also, I enjoy listening to music; Gospel, Hip Hop, R&B are my favorite genres to listen to. I listen to famous recording artists Drake and Cardi B a lot.
One thing I don't like is to bathe my dog. My dog is less than a year old and she never sits still in the tub. It takes me at least two hours to bathe her. She always tries to jump out the tub and it frustrates me so much. But because of her, she made me a much more lovable and happy person. She keeps a smile on my face and I love coming home just to see her. Also, I don't like to sleep in the dark. I still believe in ghosts and monsters and that they are out to get me.
This is my introduction and thank you for reading about me.
